Giving old furniture a second chance
A ’70s wardrobe, 2000s kitchen or inherited dressing table may seem beyond saving. Often, only the finish is dated; the frame may still be sturdy enough to last for years.
🎨 Transform it with fresh paint: terracotta, graphite, deep blue or olive grey.
🔩 New hardware, such as brass handles, can make a big difference.
🪵 Add natural wood, like an oak kitchen countertop or walnut coffee-table top.
📐 Fluted panels give flat cabinet fronts character without a major renovation.
🪞 Replace a dull mirror’s reflective backing to revive a dressing table.
🍽 Paint a display cabinet’s back panel a light shade to make dishes stand out.
Whether to keep or replace a piece depends on the frame’s condition and whether its drawers work properly. If both are in good shape, change the look.
