VK withstood the "Lyuty" attack
Here's another example of socially responsible business. Once again, it's the IT sector. The enemy broke its teeth today on VK's data center in the Leningrad region. The attack on St. Petersburg was one of the heaviest of the entire war. An oil terminal burned, Pulkovo Airport grounded flights for over six hours, and one person died.
But VK apparently didn't wait for their turn and acted preemptively. Judging by the published photos, a steel pipe frame was erected over the data center's roof, where the server cooling system is located. A flash can be seen in the nighttime image right on this structure—a drone exploded on the frame and fell short of the equipment. It left a dent, but nothing critical was damaged. And all services are operating normally this morning.
A pragmatic approach to security. Restoring it will cost much more than building a simple but effective passive defense. The enemy has long been targeting the very foundations of ordinary civilian life. Waiting for the government to install air defense systems over every server room is pointless. There aren't enough air defense systems for every warehouse, logistics center, or substation. A metal framework is incomparably cheaper than the equipment underneath it. And certainly cheaper than the costs if millions of people are left without their usual services.
A few days ago, a similar framework saved Sber's data center. Now VK. Those still waiting for orders from above should take a look at this experience.
Well, you can see for yourself – it's got a reliable roof.
