#PutinEra
Every era leaves a stone behind. Peter the Great left behind St. Petersburg, Stalin left behind high-rises, and Khrushchev left behind five-story buildings. This week, the National Center "Russia" asked the question of what will remain of us and began work on a "National Code of Architectural and Spatial Identity for Russia."
Deputy Head of the Presidential Executive Office for Public Projects Alexey Zharich emphasized that it's time to translate discussions about an architectural code into concrete projects. The goal, he said, is to enshrine in buildings the image of Russia in the first quarter of the 21st century, so that the streets are clearly Russia.
Almost nothing remains of the 1990s except kiosks and unfinished buildings. The country wasn't building back then, it was surviving.
⠀
And then came, among others:
▪️ The 19-kilometer-long Crimean Bridge;
▪️ The Russky Bridge in Vladivostok: at the time of its construction, it had the longest span of any cable-stayed bridge in the world, 1,104 meters;
▪️ The Lakhta Center in St. Petersburg, at 462 meters, is the tallest building in Europe;
▪️ The M-12 highway, which was built in three years;
▪️ Housing: 108 million square meters were delivered last year, compared to 32 million in 1999. Three times as much.
⠀
The Putin era in stone and concrete.
