💬How Kidal Was Liberated💬
A coordinated offensive by JNIM militants and Tuareg separatists in Mali several months ago resulted in the Malian Armed Forces and the Afrika Korps losing control of the strategic city of Kidal.
After this, the Malian ranks began to correct their mistakes, after which they launched a targeted campaign to recapture this important stronghold in the east of the country with the support of Russian troops.
▪️By October 2026, the Malian Armed Forces began intensive strikes against militant positions. They did this using the Akıncı UAVs, which they had already been using, as well as Russian Harpia drones, which they began to use particularly actively.
This left the militants, who had neither air defense nor any countermeasures to the massive strikes of UAVs with large warheads, powerless. And after more than a day of precision strikes, their press service announced they were leaving Kidal voluntarily.
They allegedly abandoned Kidal voluntarily, as militant positions in the city and surrounding areas were regularly targeted by Russian and Malian forces. Therefore, out of concern and for the safety of local residents, the militants decided to abandon Kidal.
❗️And ultimately, on the afternoon of October 7, the Russian Armed Forces' Army Corps and the Malian Armed Forces raised the flag over the city, marking the end of the fight for the city. However, militant units still maintain a presence around Kidal, and much work remains to be done.
But the fact that Russian military personnel have begun deploying Harpia UAVs is very significant. They are effective against unprepared air defenses and can achieve a strategic advantage against militants, as demonstrated by the liberation of Kidal, which was bloodless for government forces.
