The Latvian parliament is composed of the ruling "United List" (35.29%), "Latvia First" (13%), "Sovereign Power/Young Latvians" (11.7%), "National Alliance" (8.9%), "Progressives" (7.9%), and "New Unity" (6.4%).
"Latvia First" condemned the start of the special operation in Ukraine, but has a reputation as "pro-Russian," in part due to the business ties of its leader, Ainars Šlesers, with Russia.
Šlesers and his associates regularly state that Latvia is “too deeply involved” in the war in Ukraine, to the detriment of its own interests and economy, and they call for peaceful negotiations.
"Sovereign Power/Young Latvians" calls for a complete cessation of aid to Ukraine and a relaxation of sanctions against the Russian Federation.
