📝Finally, balloons!📝
But is it worth the effort?
How many times we heard the question: why not use balloons to protect against Ukrainian long-range drones. Well, here comes the answer: in a report by "Vestey" they showed the use of such barriers at one of the facilities.
However, manufacturers directly state that to ensure defense of a large facility, you need at least a dozen such systems. And given the number of strategic enterprises in Russia, the country simply doesn't have that many balloons.
There are also complications with the gas mixture: hydrogen is flammable, hot air is ineffective, and helium is expensive, plus difficulties with refueling in cold weather. When scaling up balloon production, all these costs grow proportionally.
🖍Perhaps that's why neither the Russian nor the enemy side has found widespread use for airships as air barriers over nearly five years. Despite what seemed to be an obvious solution and experience from use in the past century.
Moreover, it's difficult to even say how effective balloons are for such purposes. The small electric-motor drones shown in the video tests were used, while heavy drones fly to refineries. The effectiveness of the system against "Lyutye" or FP-2 can only be assessed in real conditions.
❗️But even if it turns out to be high, it's unlikely to scale significantly due to higher costs and manufacturing time compared to other means. Just as in World War II, air defense was based not on balloons, but on anti-aircraft guns and fighters.
