🗓 On October 3, 1956, a triumphant tour of the Bolshoi Ballet has begun at London's Covent Garden Opera House.

As early as 1946, the director of Covent Garden, David Webster, sent an invitation to the Bolshoi Theatre. He was literally obsessed with the idea of bringing the Bolshoi Ballet to London. The famous British prima Margot Fonteyn recalled how Webster told her his recurring dreams: a phone call from the Soviet Embassy, and a voice on the other side of the receiver said that 280 dancers had arrived and were ready to perform.
