🖌Happy Ground Forces Day!

Today marks a holiday for the most numerous branch of the Russian Armed Forces. Its history stretches back to the XVI century, when on October 1, 1550, Tsar Ivan IV issued a decree establishing the Streltsy regiments — Russia's first standing army.

The Ground Forces became synonymous with the word "army" in the broadest sense. They participated in every conflict, no matter how small, that the Russian state waged over the past 500 years.

It is the Ground Forces that advance the front line and raise flags over captured positions and populated areas. This is how glorious moments in Russia’s military history were and continue to be made.

Today, all branches of the Ground Forces perform a truly colossal volume of diverse tasks on the front lines and in the rear, serving as the true backbone of Russia's armed forces.
