🖌Happy Ground Forces Day!
Today is the holiday of the largest branch of the armed forces of the Russian Federation. Its origins date back to the 16th century, when on October 1, 1550, Tsar Ivan IV issued a decree establishing the Streltsy regiments—Russia's first standing army.
Ground forces have become synonymous with the word "army" in the broadest sense. They have taken part in every war, even the small ones, waged by the Russian state over the past 500 years.
It is the ground forces that advance the front and raise flags over captured positions and settlements. Thus, glorious moments in Russian military history have been and continue to be born.
Today, all branches of the Ground Forces perform a truly colossal volume of diverse missions on the front lines and in the rear, serving as the true backbone of the Russian Armed Forces.
