10 years ago when I met this girl, I never expected to be married - especially with a family. I was in fact living my own extended adolescence except this time I had money. Which reminds me of a funny moment.
It was 2011 and drove a 2001 Mitsubishi Mirage and it was busted up. It has a putty job done to it to fill in a hole that had been smashed in the fender. Shauna drove over with her friends to my apartment. They parked in the empty assigned space for me unit. “Whose car is that?” I’m not sure if she told them it was mine.
She thought I was broke, and stayed around. I’d advise men to drive a crappy car when younger. You’ll learn a lot about life.
10 years is a lifetime away. We’ve seen 15 countries, lived abroad, dealt with media smears and the drama of friends and family not understanding our not always conventional life. And we brought two daughters into the world, had a third not make it to this world.
Living life, creating life, saying goodbye to life...
Shauna and I met was because a friend went over to her and her friends with the worst possible pick-up line. “You gotta come meet my friends, they’re lawyers!”
This week we’ll be burying that friend.
“Time just gets away from us,” is the end scene of True Grit. There, woman who was saved by a cowboy went to visit him again once she had grown older. It was too late, and she found herself upon his gravesite.
We aren’t promised another moment, which is why we must love intensely and live fully.
