👀 Multiple P-8 Poseidon aircraft operating in the Wilmington, NC area earlier today.

The P-8 is the U.S. Navy’s primary maritime patrol aircraft. Near ports and coastal areas it is used for:
• Intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR)
• Monitoring shipping traffic and vessel movements
• Maritime domain awareness in approaches to harbors
• Detecting and tracking surface ships (and subsurface contacts)

These aircraft carry advanced radar, electro-optical sensors, and other systems that allow them to build a real-time picture of activity on and around the water.

They support broader maritime security by watching vessels and approaches.
