Are there any new directions in SWE/Database and Systems Research, seems like AI has swallowed a lot of original CS research work?

I am currently researching about Computer Science and Systems Engineering. It seems that AI has swallowed whatever non-AI research was going on in CS/IT and adjacent departments globally.


There are lot of github repos containing latest research in NLP/ML in the name of Awesome Machine Learning or Awesome AI. I could not find much for non-AI domains. Are there any interesting directions and breakthroughs in SWE, Systems Architecture, Operations and Control?
