Iran is escalating tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, warning ships that they could face sanctions if they enter a newly declared restricted exclusion zone outside the critical waterway.

The move comes after U.S. strikes on three Iranian oil tankers, following Iranian ballistic missile fire at two U.S. Navy warships. U.S. officials say commercial vessels are still being escorted through the strait as more than 20 American warships maintain a blockade of Iranian ports.
