"Oil shipping costs are SKYROCKETING:
The cost of hiring a supertanker to transport US crude to Asia has surged to a record $77 million.
This is +737% above the 2025 average, which was just $9.2 million.
For a 2-million-barrel cargo, that translates into an additional delivery cost of roughly $38.50 per barrel, on top of the oil's purchase price.
This means that even with crude futures trading at ~$100 per barrel, the freight bill alone adds another $38.50 per barrel to the cost of delivering US crude to Asia.
This all comes as the Iran war has disrupted traditional shipping routes and complicated the movement of crude, increasing delivery times and reducing the effective supply of available tankers.
The surge is also putting pressure on oil exporters, with some sellers in markets such as West Africa being forced to discount cargoes at the point of export.
Oil is becoming dramatically more expensive to deliver, adding further inflationary pressure to the global economy." - Global Markets Investor
