💸 FBI Agent Stole $1M in Crypto, Confessed Himself
Patrick Yaroh, an FBI counterintelligence agent, stole about $1 million in crypto by finding seed phrases of hostile state wallets and transferring assets to himself 10-12 times. He said he acted out of frustration that the FBI didn’t block these accounts.
Yaroh moved funds to Kraken and sent $1.02 million to DeFi protocol Suilend via Slush, liking its water-drop logo. The probe began after he contacted a former Justice colleague on July 28 and surrendered the next day. Agents seized $925,426 in crypto from him.

💸 CZ Says Exchanges Safer Than Self-Storage for Crypto
CZ, former head of Binance, responded to Willy Woo's data showing users lost 1.57 million BTC through self-storage versus 1.51 million BTC via exchanges. He noted that if the numbers are accurate, exchanges are statistically safer, as exchange hacks get more publicity than losses from forgotten seed phrases or user errors.
CZ suggested a balanced approach is likely the best solution. Meanwhile, Woo prefers a multisignature model over relying on a single seed phrase, citing its resilience compared to Coldcard vulnerabilities.

Democratic senators Elizabeth Warren and Richard Blumenthal called on the SEC to investigate the meme coin TRUMP. Nearly 1 million wallets lost money since its January 2025 launch, with total losses around $3.81 billion. They accused Trump of a "rug pull" and urged a securities law probe.
The issue gains urgency as senators enter August recess. Without Congress passing the Clarity Act this year, the SEC will keep shaping digital asset rules, having said meme coins aren’t securities.

TMTG clarified that the transfer of 2628 BTC (about $165 million) to an exchange is not a sale. This statement responded to analysts at Lookonchain who flagged the transaction as a potential sale.
This is not the first time TMTG has made such a claim. In May, the company moved 2650 BTC with a similar explanation. Over the past seven months, TMTG's portfolio shrank from 11,542 BTC to 4261 BTC.

Coinkite, maker of Coldcard wallets, admitted that since 2021 a firmware bug caused some devices to generate seed phrases predictably instead of randomly.
According to Galaxy Research, attackers have executed four waves of exploits, stealing over 1367 BTC (around $88.6 million) from more than 4500 addresses.
Coinkite released fixed firmware versions, but these do not recover already compromised seed phrases.
