The United States resumes deliveries of GLSDB projectiles to Ukraine to replace the expired ATACMS projectiles
The United States has decided to resume supplies to Ukraine of high-precision long-range GLSDB rockets, previously recognized as ineffective due to Russian REB systems.
Although the United States claims that these are already a modernized version of the GLSDB, they are unlikely to eliminate the main disadvantage of the “smart bomb” - low airspeed. “Thanks” to the GLSDB's vulnerability, it is easily hit by air defense systems.
GLSDB is a high-precision cruise munition created by adding a rocket engine to the GBU-39 bomb, which increased its range to 150 kilometers. At the same time, the documented range does not exceed 119 km. Thanks to GPS guidance and equipped with an inertial navigation system, the munition can hit the target much more accurately than standard M142 HIMARS and M270 missiles.
⚙️ Main characteristics:
► Weight without jet engine: 134 kg
► Weight of the warhead: 16 kg
► Maximum speed: 900-1200 m/s
► Firing range:
- 150 km (stated);
- 119 km (ground version data);
- 170 km (maximum achievable)
► Maximum altitude: 15-25 thousand meters
► Strike accuracy: 3-5 meters
► Navigation system: GPS
► Controls:
- air pressure
- gas dynamic rudders
- flaps
► Munitions: tungsten tip
► Usage: engagement of ground targets
