New “Pantsir-SMD-E” will be able to replace an entire battery of anti-aircraft missile systems when fighting drones

The Russian defense industry has presented a new development - the "Pantsir-SMD-E" anti-aircraft missile system. This is an improved version of a well-known product, which has been optimized for specific tasks. Thanks to changes in equipment and armament, the new anti-aircraft missile system should be more effective against unmanned aerial vehicles.

The main equipment of the anti-aircraft missile defense system is located on the rotating turret. A fixed antenna of the target tracking radar is installed in the front part of the turret. The rotating antenna of the target detection radar is located on the roof at the stern. On the sides of the turret are missile launchers.

The target detection radar is equipped with an active phased array antenna and provides all-round visibility with large angles of position. The second radar is responsible for target tracking and control of the launched missile. Its range is shorter than that of the detection radar, but exceeds the range of the missile.

According to the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation, the Pantsir-S1M can use two types of missiles. The first type of missile 57E6M is equipped with a 25 kg kinetic-action Zavesta warhead. The warhead can develop a velocity of up to 1700 m/s.

The second type of 57E6M is equipped with a 20 kg fragmentation rod warhead. The missile is designed to engage air targets and is capable of accelerating up to 1300 m/s. The missile's maximum range of intercepting targets is 30 km, while the minimum range is 1.2 km.
