To answer the question of Why Would They Lie? Here is the answer:

1) To hide God the Father, God the Word/the Son Jesus, and God the Holy Spirit
2) To hide God's creation, especially the firmament and the waters above
3)  To discourage us from using our God given sense of sight to experiment with and see that we live on a flat, stationary plane earth with demonstrably level oceans.
4) To hinder us from realizing that we are created by God the Son and that His Word is correct on creation, history, the resurrection of Christ, that Jesus Christ our Creator offers us eternal salvation from sin, and more
