Legal Immigration From Majority-Muslim Countries Has Fallen 96% Since 2024

New State Department data analyzed by the Cato Institute show a dramatic decline in immigrant visas and refugee admissions from 45 majority-Muslim countries since the Trump administration took office.

December 2024: 21,096
February 2026: 808
Overall decline: 96%

The breakdown is even more striking:

Immigrant visas: down 95%
Refugee admissions: 5,157 to 0
Afghanistan: 5,563 to 9 (-99.8%)
Pakistan: down 97.9%
Employment-based immigrant visas: down 41%

According to the analysis, 34 of the 45 majority-Muslim countries were specifically covered by either an entry restriction or visa suspension.
