💡 Novelty & Significance:
MXene/PFSA layer-by-layer membranes create interfacial nanoarchitectures that decouple proton conductivity from gas and ion crossover. MXene nanosheets introduce tortuous pathways and selectively raise transport barriers for H₂ and VO²⁺ while preserving proton migration via hydrogen bonds. This yields 43% lower hydrogen permeability and 37.5% reduced vanadium diffusion without conductivity loss, enabling stable PEMWE operation and 67% VRFB capacity retention over 470 cycles—a versatile interfacial strategy for both technologies.
