On 8 September, 2025, Nepal was swept by large-scale protests primarily led by Generation Z students and youth. The movement, widely dubbed the "Gen Z protests," was initially triggered by a government-imposed ban on numerous social media platforms. However, its underlying origins lay in deep-seated public anger over government corruption, the ostentatious display of wealth by officials and their families.
The protesters' demands rapidly expanded to address broader issues of governance, transparency, and political accountability. The sustained pressure ultimately forced the resignation of Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli.

At least 72 lives lost.
