🎀 Today's post will be devoted to Queen Elizabeth I (1558-1603). As one of the most prominent figures in British history, knowing some facts about her can give you an edge over (дать преимущество над) other olympiad participants.

🌱 Elizabeth Tudor didn't get a right to be the direct heir to the throne right after her birth. She was an illegitimate child of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn (beheaded). Elizabeth had two half-siblings that later inherited the throne: Edward VI and Mary I.

💌 Elizabeth's reign was like a gulp of fresh air for her citizens after the cruel reign of her sister, who was later called Bloody Mary for her catholic inquisition regime in England. Elizabeth I never married any man and was called the Virgin Queen. She was very popular among her people, but some Englishmen and people from other countries (especially the catholics) called her a witch for being a protestant.
