Announcement: On “Open-Source Contributions” and Project ASCP
It has come to our attention that certain forks of LineageOS have labeled our recent adaptations and improvements as “copy-paste” work. While we respect all opinions in the community, we would like to clarify that Project ASCP has not only implemented these features independently but has also significantly fixed and optimized several aspects of their original implementations.
Innovation often requires taking existing ideas and making them function correctly and efficiently. Adding value whether through bug fixes, optimization, or user experience improvements is far more meaningful than simply replicating features.
If certain features are so sensitive that others “copy” them, perhaps the better approach would be to license them or keep them private rather than expecting everyone else to avoid implementing them. Features are meant to be used, improved, and built upon.
For those curious, Project ASCP currently remains closed-source, but we are excited to announce that we will be transitioning to open-source in the near future. Our official manifest will be released soon, providing transparency and allowing the broader community to explore our work firsthand.
We remain committed to quality, reliability, and meaningful contribution, and we look forward to a future where collaboration and improvement are celebrated over unnecessary gatekeeping.
