🚨 SENATE PASSES BILL EXPANDING ESAFETY COMMISSIONER’S POWERS

The Senate has voted 31 to 20 to expand the eSafety Commissioner’s enforcement powers for Australia’s under-16 social media ban.

People relevant to an investigation could be summoned to private examinations, questioned under oath and compelled to produce documents or answer questions. Refusing to comply without a reasonable excuse can carry up to 12 months in prison.

Labor, the Greens, David Pocock and Jacqui Lambie backed the bill. Liberals, Nationals, One Nation, Jacinta Price and Fatima Payman opposed it.
