🚨 LABOR MOVES TO EXPAND ESAFETY COMMISSIONER’S POWERS

Labor’s new Digital Duty of Care would put the eSafety Commissioner in charge of enforcing new online harm rules, including content promoting “hostile ideas about women and gender equality” to under-18s.

The Communications Minister would also be able to add new categories of harmful content through government rules, although Parliament could later disallow them. Platforms that fail to comply could face fines of up to $109.2 million.
