Joel Davis made a very good point in his speech.
Extremism is attempting to advance political objectives or positions OUTSIDE of the democratic framework, ie by acts of violence, terrorism or couping the government, etc.
Ideas and ideologies pursued via democratic means, such as votes from the public, utilising public protest, print media, etc. are part of the liberal democratic process.
The Labor government abolishing these principles and practises of democracy, for one side of politics - makes them the extremists.
They are the ones going outside the mediums of democracy to consolidate and retain power, and avoid the contest of ideas that democracy allows for.
