Willpower is real and physical
In the brain, there is a specific region called the Anterior Mid-Cingulate Cortex (aMCC). Recent neuroscience suggests this is the "hub" of your tenacity. When you force yourself to do something difficult—something you truly do not want to do, like that last heavy set of squats or resisting a base impulse—this area of the brain physically grows. It is more than just neurons; it is about the density of the connections and the thickness of the myelin sheath. Myelin is the fatty insulation around your nerves. Think of it like the high-quality rubber insulation on a copper wire. The thicker the insulation, the faster and more efficiently the electrical "willpower" signal travels. You are literally upgrading your neural hardware. If you stop challenging yourself, this area withers. Willpower is a physical resource you can cultivate.
