🇮🇩 PLN chief replaced after Batam blackout
Indonesia replaced PLN chief executive Darmawan Prasodjo after a 16-hour blackout in Batam, with Suroso Isnandar appointed as the new CEO, according to an exchange filing on Oct 14. The outage began early on Oct 12 and affected more than 411,000 customers, disrupting water supplies and telecommunications.
Danantara, PLN’s controlling shareholder, said the leadership change is part of efforts to improve services at the state electricity company. PLN’s Batam subsidiary will also be moved directly under the sovereign wealth fund, while the island remains a strategic manufacturing, free-trade and data-centre hub near Singapore.
Most services had been restored by Oct 13, but rolling blackouts continued on Oct 14 as power demand exceeded capacity.
