"On September 25, an Essex County jury returned a unanimous 8–0 verdict for groundskeeper Teddy DeBlasio.
The county denied his Christian exemption from the COVID shot and fired him, even though he worked outdoors maintaining hospital grounds.
The award is more than $670,000 for lost wages and emotional harm, with attorney fees still to come.
At trial, the county was shown to have approved similar requests from Muslim employees in February 2022, while denying Christian and Catholic ones.
The jury found he was discriminated against because of his Christian faith.
This also marks New Jersey’s first jury verdict in a COVID religious-exemption case."
