Why You Can’t Get Into Top Colleges with Just High SAT, GPA and IELTS Scores.
The college admissions process is holistic. That means colleges look for more than just your test scores. They also consider the qualitative parts of your application: your extracurricular involvement, letters of recommendation, essays, and other factors.
One of the deadly sins of applications is having a Not Holistically Well-Rounded Application (NHWA). Many top colleges want to see that you're more than just a good student. They want to see that you're involved in your community and have genuine intellectual interests and passion projects.
Moreover, they would like to see how well you used the resources and opportunities available at your school and, more importantly, how much you created them yourself. In other words, they want to see initiative. They love students who, amidst stagnant and confusing times, can come up with ideas to think about, problems to solve, projects to work on, and people to help.
Thus, it is important that you take full advantage of the options available and also consider taking on new projects.
At ApplicationUSA, we teach students to be action-oriented. Our past students have significantly improved their communities by engaging in projects aimed at helping low-income families, teaching kids coding, and more. If you would like to know more about similar unique projects you can join or start, leave a "+" in the comments, and we will continue writing about them.
