Instead of using a heavy Android emulator, connect your physical Android phone with USB debugging + ADB, then mirror it with scrcpy. This is lighter for low-resource laptops because the phone runs the app; your laptop mainly builds and displays it. ADB supports installing apps on connected devices, and scrcpy mirrors and controls an Android device over USB.
One-Time Setup
On your phone: Settings โ About phone โ tap Build number 7 times to enable Developer options.
Go to Settings โ Developer options โ enable USB debugging.
Connect your phone using a data USB cable.
Accept the โAllow USB debugging?โ popup on the phone.
Install Android SDK Platform Tools for adb and download scrcpy only from its official GitHub repository.
Check Connection
adb devices
You should see your device ID and the word device.
If it says unauthorized, unlock the phone and approve the debugging permission again.
Run Your App
From Android Studio:
Select your physical device โ click Run โถ
Or install a built APK manually:
adb install app-debug.apk
To update an already installed app:
adb install -r app-debug.apk
ADBโs official install command is adb install path_to_apk.
Mirror and Control Phone
Open a terminal in the scrcpy folder and run:
scrcpy
Your phone screen appears on the laptop, and you can control it with mouse and keyboard. scrcpy works over USB, has low latency, and does not require root.
Low-Resource Mode
Use a smaller mirror window and lower quality for smoother performance:
scrcpy --max-size 1024 --max-fps 30
For even lighter testing:
scrcpy --no-audio --max-size 800 --max-fps 24
Useful Commands
adb devices
adb install -r app-debug.apk
adb logcat
adb shell pm list packages | findstr yourpackage
adb uninstall com.example.yourapp
adb logcat is especially useful for viewing app errors while testing.
Important Note
scrcpy is for running, testing, and viewing apps. It is not for flashing system images. Flashing Android system images uses Fastboot, which is a separate and riskier process; avoid it unless you understand bootloader unlocking and device-specific instructions.
๐ Remember: Use only official sources for ADB and scrcpy, keep USB debugging off when not developing, and never approve debugging prompts from unknown computers.
