In Genesis 1:1-5, the Message Version mocks God by turning Godโs complete sentences & powerful commands into watered down, incoherent commands and error-filled sentences with grammar errors. Some of the Message Versionโs errors for its Genesis 1 include:
๐ฅHaving a colon [which is the : symbol] instead of a comma in verse 1, which is improper sentence structure because โfirst thisโ without a verb is a dependent clause, which is a clause/incomplete sentence that does not form a complete thought or wording, thus confusing the reader on what Godโs words say and making God look confused on what he himself said in the introduction of Genesis 1 in verse 1
๐ฅSwitching โmovedโ to โbroodedโ, which creates a huge difference and much confusion. As per the KJB, the word โmovedโ in the context means that the Spirit of God physically went/moved a certain way over something, [i.e. the face of the waters]. However, the Message Versionโs word brooded [from the word โbroodโ has multiple meanings such as โ โthink for a long time about things that make you sad, worried, or angryโ (Source 1, Source 2). Brood means โTo sit on and cover, as a fowl on her eggsโ (Source) or โto remain a long time in anxietyโ (Source). In the context of verse 2 (which is verses 1 and 3 of Genesis 1), God is not angry at the earth and is not covering young birdsโ eggs but was creating the earth as per Genesis 1:1, and created the light on Day 1, proving that brood and the Messageโs word โbroodedโ are incorrect words for Genesis 1:2 while the KJBโs word โmovedโ does correctly describe what God does in Genesis 1:1-3
๐ฅOmitting the words โLet there beโ from verse 3 puts an incomplete, half-empty sentence into Godโs mouth. Omitting the word โtheโ two times from verse 4 removes a definite article, which specifies a noun or group of nouns. In this case, โtheโ refers to โlightโ
๐ฅOmitting the word โandโ from verse 5 and turning โandโ into a comma creates a grammatically incorrect, run-on sentence (in the Message Versionโs verse 5) with no conjunction word that creates would otherwise connect both clauses/parts of a sentence together, making God look like a person who does not know how to talk. Also, no conjunction word or semicolon is in the middle of the 2nd sentence of the Message "bible" Version's verse 5 between "it was evening, it was morning".
