In 575AD, Cassiodorus quoted 1 John 5:7-8 in his book Complexiones, a summary of the entire New Testament surviving in an early 600sAD copy. The below message shows why Cassiodorus is a credible witness to 1 John 5:7. Here is Cassiodorus' quote of 1 John 5:7-8
Three mysteries bear witness to this on earth: the water, the blood, and the spirit; which, as can be read, were fulfilled in the Lordβs passion. And three bear witness to it in heaven: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one God.
