We’ve been really getting into stargazing recently in the Telegram Theme Basement. We’d stare out the small windows and count the stars and argue about which planet is the best (obviously Saturn) until the sun came up. In the process of being too tired to do anything productive however, we never appreciated the days and nights themselves. Then we’d start arguing about which time of day was better, much like in themes 😓. The eternal battle of light and dark themes wages on in both the basement and the theming community, but we wonder if there’s a way to bring these sides together…

While it’s unlikely the battle will ever end, the new Auto-Night Mode in Telegram 4.8 will let you get the best out of both light and dark themes. It’s a brand new feature located under Settings > Themes > Auto-Night Mode, and it lets you set any custom theme you want to appear after nightfall or in low-light conditions. To celebrate this new addition, this month’s theme challenge is Day and Night! All you have to do is make two themes that each capture the essence of night and day, helping users enjoy the best that light and dark themes have to offer at the same time.

You can either make both themes yourself or work with a friend to make one each, and this time we’ll be posting theme submissions throughout the month.

Submit your theme to @AndroidThemesGroup with the hashtag #themechallenge. The deadline for submissions is the 28th February at 23:59 GMT, and the best submissions will be showcased soon after.
