“I have a UI/UX portfolio, but no one is inviting me to interviews. What am I doing wrong?” We asked our mentors why so many junior portfolios get passed over.
Here are 3 common mistakes that can cost candidates an interview:
🔝 Mistake #1: Screens with no problem behind them
You show the interface, but no one understands what problem you solved. Add context: problem → solution → outcome.
🔝 Mistake #2: No prototype
Static screens are only half the job. If your case study includes an important user flow, show how the interface works in motion: transitions, states, and interactions.
🔝 Mistake #3: The Figma file isn't dev-ready
No clear spacing, no reusable components, no grid – it makes it harder for developers to understand how the design should be built. Show that you think beyond the visuals and consider how the solution will work in a real product.

🤝 Your next step:
Pick one project from your portfolio and describe it using this structure: problem → solution → outcome.
🧠 Ask AI:
“I’m a UX designer. Here’s my case study description. Tell me how to make it more convincing to an employer. Structure it using this framework: ‘Problem → Research → Solution → Outcome.’ Here’s the text: [insert text].”
