“I’m so nervous I’ll freeze up.” – A checklist to save your interview
Terrified your mind will go completely blank the second the camera turns on? We’ve all been there. Here’s a checklist our interns use to turn interview panic into a calm, professional conversation:
🗓 15 minutes before:
– Test your headset, mic, camera, and connection.
– Close extra browser tabs and turn off notifications (they can distract you).
– Have your IDE or Figma open with your pet project ready to share.
– Make sure your background looks clean and your desk is clutter-free.
🎤 5 minute before:
Take a deep breath. You’re not going into battle. You’re having a conversation with someone who was in your exact shoes not that long ago.
💡 During the interview:
Think out loud. Interviewers care far more about your thought process than a rehearsed answer.
⭐️️️️️️ Use the STAR framework. Structure your stories as:
Situation → Task → Action → Result.
Don't panic if you don't know something. Saying “I'm not completely sure, but here’s how I would approach it…” shows real problem-solving skills.
👍 Your next step:
Practice answering “Tell me about yourself” using the STAR method out loud 3 times. You’ll be surprised at how much smoother and more confident you sound.
🧠 Ask AI:
“I’m preparing for an internship interview. Simulate a technical Java interview. Act as a tech mentor: ask me questions and let me answer. After 5 questions, give me detailed feedback on my answers.”
