To say "this is my country" is to commit a profound legal and logical error. In any other area of life, ownership requires a title deed, a signed contract, or a voluntary purchase. Yet, the relationship between the individual and the nation-state features none of these. The state is not a voluntary club you chose to join; it is a coercive monopoly that claims jurisdiction over your life, your labor, and your freedom based entirely on the geographical lottery of birth. You do not own the country you live in. Instead, you were simply unlucky enough to be born within its borders, forced and indoctrinated from infancy into a system of involuntary obedience and financial exploitation.
The primary proof that the country does not belong to you lies in the total absence of formal documentation establishing your ownership. When an individual owns a share in a company or a piece of real estate, they hold a legal title that guarantees their rights and prevents external overreach. No citizen possesses such a document for their nation. A birth certificate is not a deed of co-ownership; it is a registration document, a state-issued serial number tracking a new economic asset. Similarly, a passport is not a certificate of membership. It is a state-owned permission slip that the government can revoke, freeze, or deny at its own whim. If you truly owned a piece of the country, the state would not have the legal authority to exile you, seize your property through eminent domain, or lock you out of the territory. All such documentation does not prove the country belongs to you; it proves you belong to the country.
This lack of ownership is most aggressively demonstrated through the mechanism of taxation. In a free market, individuals engage in voluntary transactions. You pay for a service, and if you are dissatisfied, you stop paying. The state, however, operates on coercion. Taxation is not a subscription fee for civilization; it is an involuntary extraction of wealth backed by the threat of violence. If you refuse to pay for state services you do not want or use, armed agents of the state will eventually seize your property or deprive you of your liberty. A person born in a high-tax jurisdiction did not consent to forfeit half their income; they were simply born into a specific geographical coordinate. Being forced to surrender the fruits of your labor to a state you never chose is indistinguishable from Slavery.
