๐ A Redditor Has (Maybe) Discovered a New Planet with Claude
Pavel Rabtsevich works as a product manager, and astronomy is his hobby. Last month, he reviewed data from the TESS space telescope with Claude Code and noticed the star TIC 4206066, 116 light-years from Earth. Every 3.18 days, its light gets 0.05% dimmer for two hoursโthis may mean that an exoplanet with about 1.4 times the radius of Earth orbits the star.
In two weeks, he ran 74 analyses with Claude, again and again giving the AI new ways to prove the hypothesis wrong.
The main argument that this is not random noise: the same pattern shows up independently in data from 2018, 2020 and 2025. An orbit calculated from two years of observations accurately predicts the transits of the possible planet across the star's disk in the third year, which was hidden from the calculation.
There may be one more planet around the same star, but the evidence for it is much weaker, Rabtsevich admits, so he does not focus on it as much.
