In May, British anesthesiologist Ed Patrick received a call from the hospital telling him that his mother was dying. Ann, who had lived with Parkinson's disease for years, was experiencing continuous seizures, and anti-seizure medications were not working.
By the time Patrick arrived, his mother was unconscious and developing kidney failure. At her bedside, he turned to Gemini to find and summarize recent medical research on similar symptoms. That led him to suspect a vitamin B6 deficiency, potentially caused by the medication Ann had been taking for Parkinson's.
Patrick shared the idea with her medical team, and Ann was given vitamin B6 intravenously.
"What we did not anticipate was the speed and magnitude of the response. Within minutes of administering vitamin B6, Ann's seizure activity stopped," neurologist Bruno Gran said.
Ann has not had another seizure since. Patrick says that cognitively, she seems to have gone back 5-10 years.โฆ
