It isn’t just Cinema and Music that are drowning in their own corruption and stupidity; the gaming industry is, too. The spirit of the times is rotten. As a millennial with fond memories of the era of fun, challenging arcade games, I view the state of the modern industry as a disaster. My rig is old. couldn't even run the AAA games of a decade ago, but then again, I never needed it to. Only a handful of capable companies and a few passionate independent developers remain who can actually pull it off.
Bloated open worlds, Repetitive tasks, Cinematic immersion, QTE, Cringe unnecessary narratives, Excessive hand holding, Visual cues, Loss of agility, Auto health regen, Forgiving check points, Social and political ideologies.
Instead of:
Tight design, High gameplay density and interaction, Challenging and skill-based, Mechanical mastery, Irreversible consequences, Arcade-style depth and design principles, High mobility, Limited toolset, Active engagement.
