$ABU The first ever domesticated, named, and documented dog in history is Abuwtiyuw. $ABU is an ancient Egyptian dog who lived around 1950 BCE during Egypt’s Sixth Dynasty, mentioned in an inscription. He was honored with a luxurious burial ordered by the Pharaoh, showing how valued dogs were even back then.

The dog which was the guard of his majesty Pharaoh. Abuwtiyuw is his name. His Majesty ordered that he be ceremonially buried, that he be given a coffin from the royal treasury, fine linen in great quantity with incense. His Majesty gave perfumed ointments and ordered that a tomb be built for him by the gangs of masons. His Majesty did this for him in order that he, Abuwtiyuw might be honored before the great god Anubis.
