Published just twelve years after the end of the Russian-Caucasian War, ‘A Lecture on the Caucasus’ offers a nineteenth-century account of Russia’s conquest of the region and the prolonged resistance of its peoples. It pays particular attention to the Abkhazians and Circassians, describing their village by village struggle and subsequent displacement. Its language and interpretations reflect the period in which it was written. https://abkhazworld.com/aw/history/3230-abkhazian-and-circassian-resistance-in-the-pages-of-droeba-1876
