Dr. Amin Shokrollahi is a mathematician and entrepreneur renowned for his contributions to coding theory, signal processing, and high-speed electronics. He earned his diploma and M.Sc. in Mathematics from the University of Karlsruhe in 1988, followed by a Ph.D. in Computer Science and Mathematics from the University of Bonn in 1991. Dr. Shokrollahi has held research positions at the International Computer Science Institute in Berkeley, Bell Laboratories, and served as Chief Scientist at Digital Fountain, where he developed Raptor codes—an advanced class of erasure codes standardized across multiple communication systems .
In 2003, he joined EPFL as a Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science, later becoming Professor Emeritus. In 2011, he founded Kandou Bus, a semiconductor company specializing in energy-efficient chip-to-chip link solutions, where he currently serves as CEO. Dr. Shokrollahi's research interests encompass abstract algebra, number theory, coding theory, electronics, signal processing, algorithm design, and SerDes design. He has authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications and holds more than 200 patents. His accolades include the IEEE Eric E. Sumner Award, the IEEE Richard W. Hamming Medal, and the Mustafa Prize in Information Theory.
